85% of Oyu Tolgoi Scholarship Programme Graduates Are Working in Umnugovi Province
Oyu Tolgoi’s Gobi Oyu – Student Scholarship Programme, which supports access to higher education for local students and helps create opportunities for graduates to build their careers in their home province, is now in its 11th year. For the 2026–2027 academic year, 79 students from 17 fields of study were selected for the programme and received their scholarship certificates on 9 September 2026. Some of this year’s recipients have been awarded the scholarship for two to five consecutive years.
To date, 85% of scholarship recipients who have graduated are now working in Umnugovi province in the fields they studied. In doing so, they are helping strengthen the province’s professional workforce and contributing to sectors such as education, healthcare and social services, where skilled professionals are in high demand.
This academic year’s scholarship recipients include 13 medical students, 12 studying information systems, 10 in engineering, nine in pharmacy, seven in education, and five each in tourism management and mining technology. Scholarships were also awarded to students studying psychology, social work, arts and culture, environmental studies, agriculture, design, geodesy, nutrition and architecture.
To date, Oyu Tolgoi has supported 1,454 students through tuition scholarships on a cumulative basis, helping them become skilled professionals and responsible members of their communities.
The Gobi Oyu – Student Scholarship Programme is implemented by the Oyu Tolgoi-funded Gobi Oyu Development Support Fund (DSF). Priority fields of study are identified by the Umnugovi Governor’s Office based on local workforce needs, and students pursuing those disciplines are selected through a competitive application process.
Information about applying for the scholarship programme is published annually at https://goviinoyu.mn/ .
