The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Superintendent Surface Mine Geology in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Technical and Integrated Planning – Mine Technical Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site and Ulaanbaatar office 7/7/5/2 bases.

The purpose of this role is to lead, plan, organise, train and provide systematic guidance on the implementation and performances of the immediate team within the functional unit consistently in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the operation's objective and the targeted plan.

What the role entails

  • As part of the leadership team, develop a safety culture whilst ensuring that all work undertaken in areas of responsibility comply with existing safety legislation and is in full compliance with applicable HSE standards.
  • Ensure the safety of all team members and that risks are identified, mitigated and managed
  • Lead the surface mine geology, grade control and ore control functions and support operations team through
  • Provide up to date geological and structural models to the geotechnicals and planning team
  • Support the mining operations to achieve production targets and manage compliance to plan
  • Mine to Mill Reconciliation and reporting
  • Ensure correct material types are placed for NAF/PAF zones
  • Ensure all EOP reporting is done in time and accurately
  • Manage, lead and develop the team members through effective communication of team and individual role objectives and performance review system.
  • Form effective working relationships with Managers, Superintendents and key stakeholders across value chain including internal and external
  • Provide strong and effective leadership to team members and across the MTS team
  • Proactive team player and able to work under pressure in tight schedules in continually changing, complex environment

What you will need for this role

  • Diploma or certificate in Geoscience or relevant discipline is preferable
  • At least 10 years of Geology, Operation or relevant role experience is required
  • Experience in Mining software such as MS3D, Vulcan,
  • English competency (both written and oral) is essential.
  • Good knowledge and usage of MS office software
  • Strong demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Good data analysis skills
  • Experience in a complex fast-paced environment, positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges
  • Logical thinking with creative problem-solving ability
