The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Student Intern in Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Mine Technical Services Department – Surface Mine Geology team based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site and Ulaanbaatar office with a 50/50 split between the two locations for 3 months internship programme.

This internship programme is intended for high-performing students who wants to understand how world class mining business operates while gaining a first-hand experience of corporate culture. Interning for the Education Support team will provide great exposure to internal activities in one of the most dynamic and best performing units in the business. This opportunity will also enable the intern student to develop their interpersonal skills, teamwork and potentially help them to discover their career pathways and future aspirations.

What the role entails

  • Actively participate in all HSEC related activities and demonstrate commitment to established standards through actions of self and encouraging positive behaviour in others.
  • Day-to-day coordination of open-pit geological functions
  • Build a working knowledge of systems that ensure that mine geology data and documents are properly managed throughout the resource custodianship and that the most updated and complete version is stored in an accessible and secure infrastructure.
  • Identifying best practice through experience, diverse learning opportunities, and develop work processes to implement such best practices.
  • Collaborate with own team and peers in the mine environment to ensure effective application and dissemination of best practice.
  • Keep abreast of developments within the field of open pit mining geology and utilise this information to facilitate the on-going development of the programmes for further discovery
  • Recognise the business drivers for a successful open pit operation in a mine operation and how geology plays an integral role in such success.

What you will need for this role

  • Must be a Mongolian citizen.
  • Must be enrolled in a full time Bachelor or Master degree course of relevant majors at accredited Universities/Colleges in Mongolia or abroad and is expecting to be a 3-4th year student in current school year in Geosciences, Mine Engineering other relevant degree
  • GPA must be 3 or higher (On 4.0 scale)
  • Excellent written and spoken communication in English and Mongolian and ability to work as a team member
  • Good skills in using Microsoft Office 365 environment and Excel programme at advanced level
