The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Senior Mechanical Engineer in Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Underground Project – Construction department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site with roster of 14 days on and 14 days off. This is 1-year fixed term role.

Perform the role of Owners Mechanical Engineering Representative for the Project Engineering Team, which includes in part:

- Review of ESP/EPCM design information
- Responding to RFI's/TQ's
- Overseeing vendor inspections, such as factory acceptance tests
- Develop working relationships with key stakeholders to come to mutually agreeable solutions in design

What the role entails

  • Ensure that all tasks are conducted with safety as first priority to protect people, equipment, and environment
  • Ensure Safety in Design is considered when reviewing documents, drawings and participating in model reviews
  • Leadership: Provide leadership, develop and mentor other professionals
  • Performance: Ensure that the project is delivered in line with Rio Tinto best practices within budget and schedule
  • Performance: Identify and implement systems, process, and practice initiatives to improve efficiency, sustainability, and safety
  • Coordinating project execution functions between the EPCM and the Owner’s Engineering, QA/QC and Project Services teams.
  • Liaising with the EPCM to support field engineering queries, issues and changes requested by Contractors.
  • Reviewing engineering deliverables for adequacy and completeness and initiating appropriate corrective actions.
  • In field design verification and compliance with standards and specifications, and reporting construction deficiencies.
  • Identifying changes in engineering and construction methodology that significantly improve execution.

What you will need for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, Mechanical Engineering or relative field
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering across multiple disciplines throughout the construction, mining project and a record of executing work safely.
  • Work experience in Construction, Maintenance of heavy industrial plants.
  • Preferred in training and experience with ‘Crane Integrity Officer’
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills and leading a team effectively.
  • Familiar with computer skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent personal time management and attitude – Positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges.
  • English and Mongolian competency in both written and oral is essential.
