Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia is a copper-gold mine consisting of an open pit mine and underground development, processing plant and supporting infrastructure to produce high grade copper and gold concentrates. Oyu Tolgoi will utilise a Mongolian workforce that will be trained to effectively operate and maintain the processing plant. Oyu Tolgoi's workforce is more than 94 per cent Mongolian.

The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Officer Payroll Services in the Finance department based in Ulaanbaatar office. This position is on fixed term contract for maternity leave replacement.

The Payroll Services team is responsible for providing payroll services to Oyu Tolgoi LLC as a Rio Tinto customer business unit within Australasia. The role of Payroll Officer is to provide a range of payroll services including transactional, administrative, professional and advisory support to business unit employees.

To provide effective and efficient payroll services to Oyu Tolgoi LLC as a Rio Tinto Business Unit customers.

What the role entails

  • Processing and reconciliation of payroll ensuring confidential, accurate and timely processing
  • Maintain a focus on continuous improvement to identify and implement improvement opportunities in payroll processes.
  • Ensure that payroll deadlines are met – payroll, reconciliations, deduction payments, superannuation, salary packaging etc.
  • Complete all costing requirements including back charging salary costs where appropriate
  • Participate in LEAN metrics and monthly reporting

What you will need for this role

  • Diploma in Business or Finance or related fields
  • Relevant experience
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office products
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal preferably in English and Mongolian
  • Strong analytical skills
  • High focus on systems and processes and the ability to manage change
  • Sound understanding and application of HR systems of BU customers.
  • Sound understanding of relevant HR legislation
  • Flexibility and adaptability

  • Applied knowledge and experience of HR/Payroll
  • Strong knowledge of accounting practices
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of payroll and superannuation
