Between 2010 and the first quarter of 2017, Oyu Tolgoi spent nearly US$6.2 billion in country in the form of salaries, payments to Mongolian suppliers, taxes, and other payments to the Government of Mongolia.
Oyu Tolgoi collaborated with 691 suppliers as of March 2017, of which 506 are national businesses that account for 70% of total operations procurement spend.
In the first quarter of 2017, Oyu Tolgoi was injury-free for 79 out of 90 days.
At the end of March 2017, 93 per cent of Oyu Tolgoi’s workforce was Mongolian, of which 20 per cent were from the South Gobi community and 35.6 per cent were underground project employees.
In the first quarter of 2017, Oyu Tolgoi used an average of 0.405 cubic metres of water per tonne of ore processed – significantly better than the global average of 1.2 cubic metres per tonne.
Oyu Tolgoi paid US$37.2 million in taxes, fees and other payments to the Government of Mongolia in the first quarter of 2017.
