Jacques van Tonder
Chief Development Officer
Jacques was appointed by the Oyu Tolgoi Board of Directors as the new chief development officer for Oyu Tolgoi effective 1 December 2020. In his new role, Jacques reports to the Oyu Tolgoi Board of Directors and he is a member of our senior leadership team.
Jacques joined Rio Tinto more than 20 years ago and has held senior operational management roles at Palabora, Robe Valley, Cape Lambert Operations, Hope Downs 4 and Argyle. He has been a senior leader in Group Technical in Safety, Technical and Projects (and Growth & Innovation) since 2017 and has been instrumental in leading the Asset Management global transformation programme as head of the Asset Management Centre of Excellence. He holds Master degrees in Asset and Maintenance Management and a MBA in Project management and is a graduate from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Jacques is also a steering committee member at the International Council on Mining and Metals.
