The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Analyst, Power Commercial in Oyu Tolgoi Finance and Commerce department based at Ulaanbaatar with occasional travel to the Oyu Tolgoi mine site.

The purpose of this role is to play a key part in supporting various projects related to strategic and commercial power development, with contribution to renewable energy initiatives, manage the commercial aspects of OT's power operations, and assist in the development and implementation of OT’s power strategy.

What the role entails

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and uphold exemplary behavior in ethics, integrity, andrespect.
  • Foster effective working relationships within the team and with internal OT teams, as well as external stakeholders such as government entities, contractors, consultants, and advisors.
  • Actively contribute as a valuable team member within the power development team.
  • Contribute to the formulation and refinement of Oyu Tolgoi's power development strategies.
  • Assist in preparing presentations and reports for local and external stakeholders regarding power development initiatives.
  • Develop and seek approvals for various power development initiatives.
  • Design, populate, and maintain databases relevant to power development activities.
  • Develop and enhance tools for analyzing, modeling, and reporting on the commercial aspects of power contracts in relation to OT operations.
  • Prepare, review, and manage internal reporting processes, papers, and submissions as necessary.
  • Contribute to team objectives and activities, including de-risking initiatives, contract management, and building external relationships.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights and perform financial analysis to assess the feasibility and potential return on investment of business initiatives.
  • Assist in conducting risk assessments of business projects and provide recommendations for mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements for power development initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Proactively seek support from direct managers or higher-level managers when needed.

What you will need for this role

  • A degree or diploma in finance, economics, engineering, or related fields from a reputable institution. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience, typically gained through graduate qualifications, in a relevant field.
  • Experience in managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in synthesizing data from diverse sources and presenting it effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating across teams.
  • Solid grasp of commercial principles and business operations.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, sustainability, and corporate responsibility.
  • Familiarity with Mongolia's power industry, including current trends, future developments, government policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Proficiency in Mongolian and English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to produce high-quality documents.
